In the previous article, we explained how to create a virtual machine in Proxmox either using a web browser or using the command line. In this article, we will explain how to delete a virtual machine on Proxmox.
How to remove a virtual machine on Proxmox?
Just like creating a virtual machine (VM) in Proxmox, to remove a virtual machine on Proxmox, you can also use a web browser or use the command line. In this article, I use Proxmox version 7.1.2, so if you want to delete a virtual machine in Proxmox in a web browser, then we have to turn off the virtual machine by pressing the shutdown button as shown below:
Then, after the VM is turned off, then press the Remove button, which is located as shown below:
After clicking the button, a pop-up will appear, as shown in the image below:
Type the ID of the VM and if we want Proxmox to delete the details related to the VM, then check the 2 items in the red box and press the Remove button. After pressing the Remove button, the VM will disappear from Proxmox. To delete a VM using the command line, type the following command:
After that, you must shut down the VM first. For example, if the PID of the VM is 100, then type:
qm shutdown 100 qm destroy 100
then Proxmox will delete the VM.
By knowing how to create and delete a VM in Proxmox, then at least we can run Proxmox properly.
